80 years ago, world history was written in the small village of Stolzemburg on the Our. On the afternoon of September 11, 1944, the Allied reconnaissance unit of the 5th US Armored Division, led by Sergeant Warner W. Holzinger, crossed the German border for the first time. As the bridge was partially destroyed, 3 soldiers crossed the Our at the old mill weir. Sgt Holzinger, Lt Delille and Pfc Collignan cautiously approached the village of Keppeshausen on the German side.
